Film in Two Scenes

SCENE 1: THE MEETING POINT AND THE HIRING (2017)

INT. CONFERENCE ROOM – DAY

The conference room is imposing, decorated with modern works of art. A large bay window overlooks the Champs-Elysées, with a glimpse of the Eiffel Tower. Karine RIAHI, a smiling 55-year-old woman, sits at a table surrounded by files. She holds a colorful cup of coffee andplays with her pen.

The door of the room opens softly, letting in Julien BRUNET, 29, looking casual but professional, wearing a well-tailored suit. He smiles when he sees Karine.

JULIEN

Hello, thank you for contacting me so quickly and for seeing me. As you know, I've just returned from the United States and I'm now looking for an associate position.

KARINE drops her pen, tries to retrieve it with her foot, and spills her cup of coffee on Julien's resume, who bursts out laughing at Karine's disappointed face

KARINE

I'm sorry, anyway I had time to read your resume, and I'm just interested in seeing if we're a good match and if we can work together as a team.

JULIEN,

surprised

What he thought:

I need a job quickly because my loan for the LL.M starts running tomorrow.

What he said:

What a great start

KARINE, frank

I'm looking for an associate, but in 4 months' time, in a firm that isn't this one and that hasn't been created yet, and I don't have the resources of a big firm, but I'll consider you as mypartner from the outset, because I want to build a firm that's unique in the entertainment field. Are you up for it?

SCENE 2 : THE DECISION (2024)

INT. CONFERENCE ROOM - DAY

Six years after that sensational debut. Julien went from associate in 2017 to partner in 2022 and is now a member of the California Bar. Six years after building their Entertainment Law tandem in a full-service firm, Karine and Julien are wondering about the future.

KARINE

Well, this is boring, isn't it?

JULIEN

Yes, and I feel we're treading water

KARINE

So, what are we doing?

JULIEN

I was going to ask you the same question

ENSEMBLE

We're creating our own practice !!!!

KARINEher face lights up

How do we call it?

JULIENdetermined

Please no colors, philosophers, ministers, figures of speech or mistranslated American terms. We'll do it the old-fashioned way, with our two names on the firm’s sign.

KARINE

Ok, but your name first then

JULIEN

It is time John CONNOR.

KARINE

You mean Sarah CONNOR? No, that's next door...

Fade to black.
